Complaints Children
Children can go to an osteopath with a wide range of complaints. Think for example of reflux, intestinal cramps, a preferred position, sleeping problems or a flattened head in babies. But also stomach ache, bedwetting, back pain or headaches in older children are common.
As an osteopath, I am specialized in the treatment of babies and children. For this I have followed a two-year follow-up training, with which I have gained additional knowledge and skills to treat your child in a safe and effective way.

The treatment
Before the first appointment, you will receive a questionnaire by email. This will give me some insight into your child's complaints. During the first consultation, we will discuss the history and symptoms in detail.
This is followed by a physical examination. I feel for any movement restrictions in muscles, joints, nerves and organs. These restrictions can cause it to twist somewhere in the body, which affects the development or well-being of your child.
In addition, we look at whether environmental factors and lifestyle have an influence on the development of the complaints. This can include, for example; stress, nutrition, exercise, sleep and emotions.
Together we will look at what your child needs to be able to move more freely and feel better again.

Abdominal complaints
At children with abdominal pain, the osteopath examines tensions in abdominal organs, the spine and pelvis. Adhesions after an inflammation or surgery can disrupt the mobility of organs. Tension in the diaphragm or lower back can also cause abdominal complaints. With gentle hand movements, restrictions around the intestines, stomach and peritoneum are treated.
Digestive problems such as constipation, reflux or bloating can be positively influenced. The treatment focuses on restoring good blood circulation and nerve function in the abdomen. Stress or emotional tension can also manifest itself physically in the abdomen. The approach is always adapted to the age and sensitivity of your child.

Headache
Children with headaches often have tension in the neck, skull or back. Osteopaths look for movement restrictions that can cause these headaches. Birth trauma, falls, poor posture or tension at school can play a role in this. The skull bones and cervical vertebrae are carefully examined and treated. Gentle techniques help to reduce tension in the tissues and nerves. Digestive problems can also cause headaches via tissue tension in the body. The treatment focuses on improving the mobility in the entire body. Each treatment plan is adapted to the age and sensitivity of your child. The intensity and frequency of the headaches often decreases after a few sessions. Osteopathy can thus contribute to a better daily quality of life for your child.

Sleep problems
In children with sleeping problems, the osteopath examines tensions in the body that can disrupt rest. Blockages in the neck, skull or back can affect the nervous system and sleep rhythm. Digestive complaints or hidden tensions after a difficult birth sometimes also play a role. With gentle techniques, the osteopath helps the body to relax better. The treatment focuses on improving mobility and reducing stimuli. Sleep disorders such as waking up frequently or restless sleep can decrease as a result. Parents often notice that their child sleeps deeper and more peacefully after a few treatments. The approach is tailored to the age, complaint and sensitivity of your child. In addition to physical tension, the influence of breathing and abdominal organs is also examined. Osteopathy can thus provide natural support in restoring healthy sleeping habits.

Back pain
In children with back pain, the osteopath examines the mobility of the spine, pelvis and surrounding tissues. Growth, poor posture or sports injuries can cause or maintain back pain.
Tension in the abdomen or chest can also put an unfavourable strain on the back. With gentle techniques, movement restrictions are detected and treated. The osteopath looks at the balance in the entire body, not just at the painful spot.
By reducing tension, the body can better adapt and recover. The treatment is adapted to the age and physical development of your child. Children often experience more flexibility and less pain after a few sessions.
Early treatment can prevent back pain from getting worse later. Osteopathy thus offers natural support in the recovery of back pain.

Feeding problems
Feeding problems in children often occur at different ages and stages. Some children have difficulty swallowing, spit up a lot or refuse to eat certain foods. Other problems, such as constipation, stomach pain or reflux, can make eating unpleasant. Causes can be physical, such as difficult digestion, but also emotional, such as stress. In babies, birth trauma or tension can affect drinking and swallowing. In toddlers and preschoolers, developmental stages or negative eating experiences sometimes play a role. Persistent feeding problems can lead to growth retardation or a nutrient deficiency. It is important to look for the cause early and to offer targeted support. Guidance can consist of advice on nutrition, relaxation or physical treatment of the movement restrictions.
